Podcast Journey

FLORENCE ST LEGER’S PODCAST JOURNEY

Meet Florence St Leger—actor, motion capture performer, and the soothing voice behind The Sleepless Creatives podcast, a bedtime haven for anxious performers and artists. With years of industry experience, Florence blends vulnerability, authenticity, and wit into her work—whether voicing characters or calming restless minds. Based in Leeds with her rescue cat Teacake, she created the podcast during lockdown to help fellow creatives rediscover hope and rest through the power of performance.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

I am a queer and neurodivergent actor and voice actor from Bristol UK who has a special interest in bird watching.

What inspired you to start a podcast?

During the 2021 lockdown I witnessed how people in the creative and performing arts industry were struggling, some even saying they wanted to quit altogether. I wanted to do something to help and had been finding that listening to sleep podcasts before bed really benefited my overall sleep pattern, so I put those two thoughts together.

How did you come up with the name of your podcast?

To tell the truth I can't really remember! I think it just popped into my head one day.

What is the main focus or theme of your show?

To remind performers and creators why they chose their craft, taking them back to the 'script' and back to the words they love.

Have there been any particularly memorable moments during the recording that stick out to you?

When people reach out, tell me how much they love the show and how much it's helped them. I remember the first time it happened, someone told me they were a big fan of the show and had even told all her friends to listen too, took me completely by surprise in the best way!

Who has been one of your favorite guests so far, and why?

All of my guests are special, but I did really love our episode with Giulia Del Fabbro, she has a really soothing reading voice perfect for ASMR.

What's next for your show – any exciting plans we should know about?

There are a few new things in the pipeline...but they are still in progress so I can't say too much!

Between Protests and Podcasts

Chenjerai Kumanyika is a journalist, activist, and scholar whose work bridges historical research and contemporary social justice issues, particularly around policing and systemic inequality. Known for his incisive podcast "Unjust: America’s Enduring Punishment System," he examines patterns of police corruption—from 19th-century NYPD scandals to modern-day parallels like Uvalde and campus protests. A vocal advocate, Kumanyika’s firsthand experience being detained at NYU’s pro-Palestinian encampment deepened his critique of institutional power, while his nuanced approach invites dialogue across ideological divides.

In an interview, he revealed how his research, personal activism, and even conversations with his daughter shaped his mission to expose systemic failures while advocating for change.

Podcast Tip Of The Day

Consistent volume is key for binge-worthy listening—use LUFS standards (-16 LUFS for mono, -19 LUFS for stereo) in your editing software to normalize levels across episodes. Set it once, and never startle listeners with jarring volume jumps again!
