WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE PODCAST WORLD
Ultra: Season 2 by Rachel Maddow Premieres June 10

Rachel Maddow returns with the second season of her MSNBC podcast, "Ultra," which delves into the history of American radical conservatism. The new eight-episode series will premiere on June 10 and subsequent episodes will be aired every Monday.

MSNBC is starting a podcast subscription service via Apple, marking another step in the network's expansion into audio and digital mediums. The new service, named "MSNBC Premium", offers subscribers ad-free podcasts and early access to MSNBC content starting from Monday.

The latest Canadian Podcast Trends Report by Triton Digital reveals that True Crime, Comedy, and News are the most favored podcast genres in Canada. The report also indicates that on average, each listener downloads about 5.9 hours of content every week.

Last month, the 2024 IAB Podcast Upfronts took place in New York City. This event was an opportunity for creators, brands and others involved in media to come together and talk about podcast advertising trends. They also previewed new technologies and talent in this field. Liberated Syndication Inc., or "Libsyn", shared some insights from their presentation at the event. Additionally, they revealed the Podcast Advertising Rates for May 2024 which includes both high-end and more affordable CPM categories.

Grey's Anatomy stars, Jessica Capshaw and Camilla Luddington are launching a new podcast where they promise to give straightforward advice. The best friends and co-stars announced that their show, Call It What It Is, premiered on iHeartPodcast on June 3rd without any "sugarcoating".

Wondery, a podcast studio owned by Amazon, is expanding its reach in the UK sports sector. The company has commissioned its first original UK sports podcast titled "Everything to Play For". Additionally, it has secured an agreement to distribute and represent ad-sales for the acclaimed podcast "The Socially Distant Sports Bar".

Scheduled for June 19, 2024 at Savoy Place in London, it will be a hybrid event with both physical and virtual participation. The awards are inclusive for queer and trans individuals, recognizing talent across the sector - from independent creators to established audio teams. This year's awards will honor excellence across several categories including educational shows and storytelling podcasts. Winners will be chosen by a panel of expert judges comprising podcasters, journalists and professionals.
