Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background? I'm a longtime digital strategist specializing in politics and advocacy. I lead People First, an influencer marketing agency, and have spent the past two years as a digital nomad exploring Latin America. Beyond work, I’m passionate about literature, history, and discovering new foods. | What inspired you to start a podcast? I first dabbled in podcasting back in 2010 but didn’t keep the momentum. About seven years ago, my cohost Kiernan Schmitt and I wanted to collaborate on a project, and a podcast felt like the perfect fit. After a few brainstorming sessions, we landed on a travel theme. |
How did you come up with the name of your podcast? We brainstormed several names we liked and ensured no other major podcasts shared the title. Out Of Office was always a leading contender, and I think we made a pretty great choice. | What is the main focus or theme of your show? Travel! Our show takes a broad approach, covering everything from city guides to interviews with historians. We embrace a slightly dorkier (in a good way) style, diving deep into history while steering clear of topics like travel points and luxury hotels. ![]() |
Have there been any particularly memorable moments during the recording that stick out to you? We’ve been recognized in real life a few times, which is always fun. We also take a trip together every year for an episode, which is definitely a highlight. | Who has been one of your favorite guests so far, and why? Rick Steves! It took us forever to get him on the show—we even turned it into a segment called “The Quest for Rick Steves.” So when we finally booked him, it was a pretty amazing moment. What's next for your show – any exciting plans we should know about? We’re planning to release video content in 2025. With many podcast creators moving in that direction, we’re aiming to increase our exposure on TikTok and YouTube. |
A special thanks to RYAN for sharing their insightful podcast journey thus far and we wish them all the best with their continued podcast growth.
