Turning Regret Into Riveting Stories

Jonathan Goldstein is the Emmy-nominated host and creator of Heavyweight, a critically acclaimed podcast that blends humor, heart, and humanity as it helps guests (and sometimes himself) confront unresolved regrets. A veteran storyteller with a background in radio (notably This American Life and WireTap), Goldstein’s signature style—wry, self-deprecating, yet deeply empathetic—turns personal reckonings into universally relatable narratives. His work explores the messy intersections of memory, forgiveness, and the absurdity of being human, earning Heavyweight a devoted following for its ability to find lightness in life’s heaviest moments.
In this past interview, Goldstein pulls back the curtain on the show’s creative process, the role of vulnerability, and the unexpected journey behind the "Skye" episode.

Podcast Tip Of The Day
Stay still while recording—shifting in your chair or rustling papers can create distracting sounds, especially with earbud wires rubbing against clothing.
Pro tips:
Plant your feet and avoid desk movements.
Handle printed notes gently.
Take planned breaks to hydrate, stretch, and check audio quality.

A Final Note
“The record button is a bravery test.”
