Podcast Business in Canada Struggles

The Canadian advertising market has faced big challenges, with local media losing jobs and market share to streaming giants. Now, the Canadian podcasting business is also struggling, as The Podcast Exchange, a major ad reseller and content producer, plans to seek bankruptcy protection. The company’s CEO said the podcast market is under pressure from changing demand, lower prices, and more competition from global players. They hope to keep operating while they work with creditors to fix their financial problems. Despite these troubles, podcasting in Canada still attracts top brands and important deals, like a recent partnership with BBC Studios.

Podcast Tip Of The Day

A polished podcast shouldn’t sound overproduced. Here’s how to edit like a pro without losing authenticity:

🔹 Preserve Natural Flow
Keep breaths and brief pauses—they make conversations feel human. If a guest says "um," ask: Does this actually distract, or just sound like normal speech?

🔹 Limit Sound Effects
Use music/transitions sparingly. Ask: Does this enhance the story—or become the story?

🔹 Beware of Over-Processing
Aggressive noise removal can make voices sound robotic. Aim for "clean" not "clinical."

🔹 Set Time Limits
Cap editing at 2–3x the episode length (e.g., 1-hour episode = max 3 hours editing)..

A Final Note

“Aim to polish, not perfect—listeners connect with humanity, not robotic precision.”
