Presidential Race Reaches Out to Youth Through Podcasts

The upcoming U.S. presidential election between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump is focusing on reaching the young, undecided voters, with both candidates appearing on popular podcasts. VP Harris has been a guest on Call Her Daddy and All The Smoke, targeting female listeners and young non-white men respectively. Meanwhile, Trump has appeared on This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von and Lex Fridman Podcast to reach younger white male audiences.

Avoiding Tough Questions: How Politicians Use Media

Politicians often prefer appearing on podcasts or late-night TV shows, as these platforms allow them to direct the conversation and avoid tough questions. This strategy works well for campaigns because it reaches a wider audience and can help humanize the candidate. However, there is criticism that this tactic allows politicians to dodge substantial interviews and accountability while using media primarily for public relations purposes.

Emerging Markets Show High Engagement in Podcasts

Acast has conducted a study to investigate podcasting trends in established and emerging markets, finding that 44% of listeners in emerging markets spend over six hours weekly on podcasts, with 51% expecting to spend even more time. CAT COLUCCIO’S PODCAST JOURNEY

Meet Cat Coluccio, the inspiring host of Rocking Midlife® Podcast. She is not only an author but also a certified teacher, personal trainer and life coach based in New Zealand. With her infectious energy and passion for midlife transformation, she brings to you real-life stories from amazing people all around the world. Whether it's about navigating menopause or creating a new chapter in life, Cat makes sure no topic is untouched on her show. Tune in to feel inspired and motivated to make your next season of life truly rock!

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

I'm an author and a fierce advocate for midlife women. From my rural New Zealand home, where cats, chickens and sheep outnumber the humans, I inspire women to ditch procrastination, declutter and reinvent their lives and chase purpose. I’m all about fresh starts, building community, having a sense of humour and living by the belief that 'it’s never too late to have a new beginning in life.'

What inspired you to start a podcast?

Via my own Rocking Midlife® community, plus my being invited to speak at numerous summits and podcasts, I've had the privilege of connecting with many incredible midlife men and women. I wanted to share their stories so that others could also be inspired, hence the podcast, (a long-held dream) was created to do this very thing.

How did you come up with the name of your podcast?

"Rocking Midlife®" is a name I adopted many years ago when I created my online community for women. It was a no-brainer to call the podcast this as well, as the philosophy behind the name is that this season of life can absolutely ROCK. Every episode of the podcast emulates this.

What is the main focus or theme of your show?

Encouraging people - particularly women - that their midlife season can be passion-fuelled and purposeful. That age doesn't define your worth and ability to live a fulfilling life.

Have there been any particularly memorable moments during the recording that stick out to you?

My very first recording sitting next to a old friend Kiri-Maree Moore was a wonderful way to kick off a long-held dream. Otherwise, every guest brings something fresh and I always feel like I have made a new friend with every interview.

Who has been one of your favorite guests so far, and why?

I can't choose! Every single guest is wonderful and brings something fresh.

What's next for your show – any exciting plans we should know about?

I'm always excited about the show! I can promise more fabulous guests as well as some episodes featuring my own insights. The topics this season are ranging from living with chronic pain, to tiny homes as a path to a more affordable retirement to dating, to better sex and more in your midlife season. Something for everyone :)

A special thanks to CAT for sharing her insightful podcast journey thus far and we wish her all the best with her continued podcast growth.

PODCAST TOOL OF THE DAY

Key Features

  • Transcription

Descript transcribes uploaded media files using machine and human help. The transcript might need reviewing for accuracy, which is important for video subtitles. The tool can also identify different speakers in multi-person recordings.

  • Overdub

Overdub by Descript lets you avoid re-recording videos. It uses your voice sample to make a cloned AI voice. You type the text, and it speaks for you. Plus, you can create a video without using your own voice by typing text and choosing a stock voice.

  • Video Editing

Descript is a video editing tool that works like a Word document. It lets you edit videos by changing the autogenerated transcriptions, blend scenes with transitions, add titles and captions, embed graphics and shapes, and animate layers. For live streams, it uses lower-thirds to display key details like host names or viewer questions.

  • Screen Recording

Descript is a software for recording, editing, and publishing videos. It has a screen recorder that you can control with shortcuts and allows customization. You can preview, edit or remove the video within the program itself.

  • Social Clips & Templates

You can reuse live stream recordings by keeping them on YouTube, offering on-demand views, or splitting into smaller videos for social media. You could also sell digital products using sites like Payhip, Podia, or Thinkific. Using Descript makes repurposing video and audio easier because of its transcription feature. You can select parts of the transcript to create new files. Descript also has audiogram templates for sharing on social media or blogs which are easy to use for beginners.

  • Studio Sound

Descript enhances voice and removes background noise with one click. It works with any microphone, anywhere, optimizes sound quality, and ensures the speaker's voice is clear.

  • Filler Word Removal

Descript helps build trust with your audience by removing filler words like "uhms," "ahs," and "erms." Just click the "One-click" option to use this feature. After transcribing, use the "wrench icon" to automatically remove these fillers from your audio or video recordings. This makes your content neater and more engaging for your listeners. Use Descript for concise, professional presentations that keep audiences hooked till the end.

  • Publishing

Descript provides users with the ability to export documents and subtitles in a flexible manner, along with customizable timestamps and other features. With just a few clicks, users can easily export their Descript project to other video editing software such as Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro. An XML file is exported which contains all the cuts, animations, and adjustments made in Descript, enabling users to resume their work in another editing program.
