KATHERINE LACEFIELD’S PODCAST JOURNEY
Meet Katherine Lacefield, your guide on The Just Be Cause Podcast. With 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector and a passion for animal and environmental causes, she's here to share inspiring stories from nonprofits around the world. Join her as she offers practical advice on fundraising, explores the power of collaboration, and challenges common misconceptions about philanthropy. | ![]() |
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background? I have been working in the nonprofit space my whole life. From volunteering as of 13 years old, I have always been passionate about making this world a better place. After being involved in the animal welfare and rights movements, I burnt out. I switched to academia to study grantmaking philanthropy and when COVID hit, I packed my bags, moved to Mexico and launched my consultancy with my husband! | What inspired you to start a podcast? I have always wanted to change the world. A few years ago, I realized that the best way to increase my impact was to support MANY nonprofits and changemakers. Launching into nonprofit consultancy was a first step, but a podcast allows me to elevate more nonprofit leaders and share my knowledge and experience for FREE! |
How did you come up with the name of your podcast? My mom did actually. She has always been my biggest fan and the person I go to for name-finding: she has a knack for it! The name sums up why nonprofits do what they do: Just Because it's the right thing to do. | What is the main focus or theme of your show? I focus on the interconnection between causes, from how rescuing animals can actually also save people, and how defending environmental rights can defend communities at the same time. While we cover many different aspects of nonprofit work, I tend to focus more on my own expertise: fundraising. ![]() |
Have there been any particularly memorable moments during the recording that stick out to you? I feel like having guests on my show builds a strong connection with the guests. Some guests have become people I consider friends, and we have stayed in communication for over a year after the recording! The most memorable moment was how my community stood up in support when I launched the podcast, cheering me on and supporting me throughout the process!
| Who has been one of your favorite guests so far, and why? That is tough! I have had MANY memorable conversations, but one of my favorite was Kathy Powelson's episode where we talked about the intersection of animal rescue and community wellbeing. This woman's passion and knowledge shone through and was so inspiring! What's next for your show – any exciting plans we should know about? Next year, I will be gearing up to 1 episode a week and hope to be able to include more contests and giveaways in the podcast to give even MORE support to my listeners! I am also planning on launching a "live consulting" series where select nonprofits will benefit from free consulting support "on air" so that other nonprofits can benefit from the advice as well. |
A special thanks to KATHERINE for sharing her insightful podcast journey thus far and we wish her all the best with her continued podcast growth.
