The Growing Influence of Podcasts

Podcasts are gaining popularity worldwide, according to 2025 data from YouGov Global Profiles. The report shows that in 49 global markets, 41% of consumers listen to podcasts for at least one hour weekly. In addition, nearly 10% spend over ten hours each week on this medium. This demonstrates the increasing role of podcasts in daily media consumption. The survey also provides information about regular podcast listeners who tune in for an hour or more every week.

Visionary Voices Of Podcasting
The Sonic Storyteller Who Reinvented Radio

Before creating Radiolab—the Peabody Award-winning podcast that transformed audio storytelling—Jad Abumrad was a composer and self-described "radio nerd" obsessed with how sound could sculpt emotion. The son of a physician and a musician, he found his calling during a college radio gig, where he discovered the alchemy of weaving narrative, science, and experimental sound design. His breakthrough came when a 2002 This American Life segment he produced—layering a surgeon’s memoir with haunting cello melodies—caught Ira Glass’s attention. That moment cemented his belief that stories could be felt, not just heard. Radiolab (launched in 2002 with co-host Robert Krulwich) became his laboratory, bending timelines, scoring ideas like symphonies, and making neurology as gripping as detective fiction.
