Leverage Your Listeners

Premium Content - Welcome back to Podcast Tonight! Yesterday, we revealed our top method for growing your podcast audience and taking control of your listener base by implementing an email funnel to guide your listeners into your newsletter.

THE OFFER

Once you have created your landing page with your chosen email provider (we will link a demo video below on how to do this), it's time to create an offer so irresistible for your listeners that they will be only too happy to enter their sacred email address and join your community for life.

  • Let's say you're podcast is all about men's health, you can create a cheat sheet of the best superfoods for men of all ages to stay in shape for 2024.

  • If you have a comedy podcast, you can ask listeners to join your email list to receive hilarious outtakes from your show that no one else gets to hear.

Your offer to your listeners really comes down to what we mentioned in Monday's newsletter about understanding why people are tuning in to your show. Once you know that answer you can create something easy to gift your fans for free in exchange for their email.

Don't be scared to let people know during your podcast that you have a newsletter. You will be surprised at the number of people who will join without wanting something in exchange. If they are big fans of your show, they will more than likely love to feel a part of your community and be more than happy to receive an email from you once a week.

The Landing Page

Keep it simple and clear about what they will receive in exchange for their email information. Take a look at our newsletter sign-up form for this newsletter and see how minimal we keep it www.podcasttonight.new/subscribe

When creating your landing page, be sure to keep the feel in line with your branding so as not to cause any hesitation from your listener. They need to be 100% comfortable while exchanging their email address. Here's a YouTube video of how to create your perfect landing page

Don't be overwhelmed by the thought of building a landing page and create a free giveaway for your listeners. All you need is the idea 💡 of what you want to give them, and you can outsource the other jobs on places like Fiverr, where for just a few dollars, people will do the leg work with creating your landing page or creating an eBook, etc.

So, be clear about what you want to give your listeners as a thank you for joining your email list. Once you've created the email funnel, use your podcast to handle all the marketing for your newsletter. A quick shout-out for your newsletter or free giveaway at the start and end of your show will have traffic arriving at your landing page in no time.

DAVE CARTER’S PODCAST JOURNEY

Meet Dave Carter, our host for the "Search Among the Sunflowers" podcast. He is a master storyteller and interviewer, known for his award-winning content across Australia. Dave's knack for purpose-driven narratives and sharing human stories sets him apart. He puts in days of preparation for each interview, turning them into engaging conversations rather than simple Q&As.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

I'm a creative producer, accomplished writer and interviewer who’s spent more than 30 years leading the conception and production of award-winning podcast, radio, and television content in Australia. I have a passion for purpose-driven narratives and sharing human stories.

What inspired you to start a podcast?

This particular podcast was sparked by a conversation about the MH17 trial in November 2022 and the complex nature of the investigation. From there, a plan emerged to travel from Australia to the Netherlands to connect with investigators and family members and build out a story based around the human side of the tragedy.

How did you come up with the name of your podcast?

Among the 50 square kilometres of Ukrainian agricultural fields where MH17 came down were fields and fields of sunflowers. To retrieve human remains and uncover clues which would lead to a determination of what had brought down the plane, investigators needed to walk and search through rows and rows of 5-foot tall sunflowers. The sunflower has now become an iconic symbol of this terrible tragedy.

What is the main focus or theme of your show?

Our aim was to provide listeners with an understanding of the complexities involved in a large-scale disaster response within a conflict zone as well as an intimate understanding of the challenges and emotional depth involved in bringing closure to grieving relatives and loved ones. Much of the interview content revolves around the strength of the human spirit and unsung heroes.

Have there been any particularly memorable moments during the recording that stick out to you?

The tears. Tears as families shared the stories of their cherished loved ones who were on board MH17, tears in the voice booth as the narrator grasped the gravity of the script, and tears at the launch when the victims' names were read out loud.

Who has been one of your favorite guests so far, and why?

AFP Assistant Commissioner Hilda Sirec is standout guest for sure. As a police officer, Hilda is very personable and relaxed. Of course, the family members we spoke to are all memorable simply for the courage they showed in sharing their deeply personal and emotional stories.

What's next for your show – any exciting plans we should know about?

As this was a limited series documentary podcast, we don't have any plans to add anything further to Search Among The Sunflowers. However, we are working on bringing new stories to life about the work of the Australian Federal Police in major international investigations.

A special thanks to Dave Carter for sharing his insightful podcast journey thus far and we wish him all the best with his continued podcast growth.
