London to Host The Podcast Show, a Global Festival for the Podcasting Industry

The Podcast Show, a leading international festival dedicated to the podcasting world, is set to take place at Islington's Business Design Centre in London on May 22-23. This gathering serves as an international recognition and platform for the podcast industry. As an important meeting point for the global podcast community, The Podcast Show brings together creators, brands and industry pioneers to talk about and mold the future of podcasts.

Numerous mobile games feature promotions for at least nine of the top 50 shows on Apple Podcasts. This strategy by MowPod is causing some controversy, as while it may increase podcast subscriptions, it potentially undermines sustained audience interest.

Podcasts are gaining popularity in the US, with around 100 million adults tuning in on a weekly basis. The annual Infinite Dial report by Edison Research shows that podcast listening is becoming quite common, with one-third of adults admitting to listening to them while driving. This reveals a shift from the traditional dominance of broadcast radio during car rides. Despite local morning shows aiding commuters on their way to work, podcasts are increasingly becoming a favoured choice for in-car entertainment.

For the first time in U.S. history, three presidents participated in podcasting together on Thursday. President Joe Biden and ex-Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton were guests on "SmartLess," though it's unclear when this episode will be broadcasted, according to a White House statement.

  • The share of SiriusXM listenership increased over time, from just 4% in cars/trucks from 2009 and older, to a high of 22% in those from 2020 and newer.

  • Despite the increase in SiriusXM listenership, AM/FM Radio remained the dominant source of radio listening across all vehicle age groups.

  • In vehicles manufactured between 2016-2019, there was an increase of SiriusXM usage to 10%, while AM/FM usage decreased slightly to 65%.

  • Vehicles dating from 2010-2015 saw a notable rise in SiriusXM exposure at 18%, with AM/FM dropping further to 56%.

  • For vehicles that are model year 2020 or newer, both channels experienced growth but at different rates: SiriusXM rose markedly to 22%, while AM/FM had a slight uptick to 52%.
