Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background? I have a long and varied history in TV and radio journalism. As Australia’s first female radio newsreader in Sydney, I've worked as an on-air reporter and host for countless TV news, current affairs and entertainment shows and have presented and produced my own radio show for several years. A Breath of Fresh Air, was born during the pandemic and has developed into a must listen, warm nterview show | What inspired you to start a podcast? I had been doing regular weekly live entertainment reports for several commercial radio stations. When the pandemic hit, and djs weren’t able to fill their shifts, some of these stations begged me to fill a full hour. So, I did. I built a radio show, reached out to famous musical guests from the 60s 70s and 80s and sent the show to radio stations around the globe. Finally I loaded it as a podcast |
How did you come up with the name of your podcast? I'm not sure the name of my show is particularly great for discoverability but when it began, I didn't even know it had to be. My partner named it A Breath of Fresh Air because that's what someone once referred to me as. I guess the name really suits the show because my chats with artists really ARE a bit of a fresh breath .. they're warm, honest, intimate and sometimes quirky. Like life itself. | What is the main focus or theme of your show? Like most people I’m really into the music I grew up with the soundtrack of my life. That's the 60s, 70s and 80's. So, I track down and chat with some of the biggest musical names of the era. The show is all about Their Lives. Their Stories. Their Music - told in THEIR voices. Think Blondie, Alice Cooper, Gordon Lightfoot or Peter Frampton. It's a rare archive for current and future music lovers ![]() |
Have there been any particularly memorable moments during the recording that stick out to you? I chased the late Canadian star, Gordon Lightfoot for some 2 years before he gave me an interview. I'd always been a fan and was shocked when he chatted with me as intimately as he did. He told me about how regretful he was that he had done the wrong thing by his wife and kids. He was almost in tears when he admitted he’d been a womaniser and said he'd been trying to repair the damage for a decade
| Who has been one of your favorite guests so far, and why? Deep Purple's Ian Gillan - his honesty and humility were refreshing. He shared about his pain in losing his wife and told stories about life as a rock 'n roller- the glamorous and the not-so glamorous sides. What's next for your show – any exciting plans we should know about? I have at least 6 months worth of interviews that remain unedited so I will work my way through them, rolling them out week after week at exactly the same time and same day. Simultaneously I continue to seek new interviewees and respond to listener's requests asking to hear from their favourite artist. You can expect to hear from Kim Carnes, The Moody Blues, Huey Lewis + The News, Smokie and more |
A special thanks to SANDY for sharing her insightful podcast journey thus far and we wish her all the best with her continued podcast growth.
