PODCAST TIP

You already identify your objectives and the podcast type you plan to produce; now, ask yourself a couple of questions. Knowing the answers to these questions will help you identify the podcast equipment best suited to your project.

  • What is my budget? - To decide on the right podcasting equipment, first consider your budget. There are good quality options at different prices, so you don't always need to buy the most expensive items. Remember to plan out your budget before buying anything.

  • How many people will be recorded? - How many people are on your podcast affects the type and amount of equipment you need. If you're alone, one microphone is enough; two for interviews. For a panel show, the number of mics corresponds with how many participants there will be.

  • Can I work on all the technicalities of the equipment? - Think about your tech skills before buying podcasting equipment. If you're not good with technology, don't buy expensive gear as it might be too complicated for you. But if you're comfortable with learning new systems and adjusting audio settings, go for more advanced equipment. Make sure to understand what each device does before buying it. This way, you won't waste money on unnecessary items.

  • Where Will I Record My Episodes? - Your recording environment is important as it affects the type of microphone you should use. Different microphones pick up sound in various ways depending on the surroundings. For mobile recording, choose light and easy-to-carry podcast equipment to maintain high-quality recordings anywhere. The location's characteristics determine the need for specific acoustic treatments. You may require extra acoustic panels or a reflection shield if your space has background noise, unlike quiet places with soft surfaces where minimal reverb control is needed.
