PODCAST FACTS
Did You Know?

  • In the past, narrative podcast series could command budgets of up to $500,000 for an eight or ten episode series.

  • Due to tighter spending from big distributors and advertisers in recent years, such deals have almost entirely disappeared with typical budgets now ranging between $150,000 to $250,000.

  • As a result of lower budgets, some production companies are moving away from selling their shows and are looking to release their own programs and become distributors themselves.

  • Some major players in the podcast industry include Tenderfoot TV (maker of Up and Vanished) and Campside Media (maker of Chameleon). These two companies announced a multi-show deal together recently.

  • Spotify is expanding its ambitions towards YouTube by hosting select video programming from creator-oriented streaming company Nebula.
