Celebrating Mother's Day: Moms in Podcasting

Mother's Day offers a chance to examine how podcast advertising targets moms. Most of these podcasts are hosted by mothers who discuss various topics like True Crime, Pop Culture/Entertainment and Family/Relationships rather than just parenting. Many hosts were famous before they started podcasting and use this platform as a new way to connect with their fans.

Making Sense of Podcast Listenership Data

Podcasting has a complicated and non-standardized method of counting listeners, with different platforms using various criteria to count a 'download'. This lack of clarity makes it difficult for podcasters, brands, and agencies to identify suitable collaboration partners. However, tools are being developed to increase transparency in the industry; Rephonic is currently leading in this area.

Apple's 30% Cut Bypassed in New Patreon Update

Patreon is updating its iOS app to allow in-app purchases without Apple taking a 30% cut, following a court order last month that required Apple to let apps link users to their own websites for buying digital goods. The update will offer various payment options such as credit cards, Venmo, PayPal and Apple Pay. Consequently, Patreon has rescinded the November 2025 deadline for creators to switch to subscription billing but states they still need this method to accept payments via the Patreon iOS app.

Podcast Tip Of The Day

Slow down and pause intentionally—your clarity matters more than speed. Use software like Audacity, Adobe Audition, or GarageBand to monitor your input levels:

  • Green zone = Ideal for normal speech

  • Yellow zone = Perfect for emphasis (but don’t linger)

  • Red zone = Danger! Distortion ahead 🚨

Pro move: Set a noise gate in your DAW (like Reaper or Hindenburg) to cut background hum.

A Final Note

“The ‘record’ button is a bravery test.”
