SHIV SIVAGURU’S PODCAST JOURNEY
Shiv Sivaguru is the host of Software People Stories, a podcast that shares experiences from experts about creating software solutions. It's a treasure trove of practical insights and stories of triumphs and challenges in the world of software development. | ![]() |
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background? I am an IT professional with over four decades of experience. I am also actively involved in the social sector, working with grassroots NGOs in rural India. My IT experience covers multiple industry domains, technologies and geographies in roles ranging from individual contributor to leadership. I am currently an excellence coach, helping teams and organizations achieve excellence | What inspired you to start a podcast? It was more of a pay-it-forward idea. When I was going to turn 60, wanted to share my experience with others. I noticed in my coaching, that many others were discovering the lessons I learnt the hard way, the hard way! So, I thought that sharing people’s journeys would inspire or help them address their own challenges |
How did you come up with the name of your podcast? This podcast started as Software Lifecycle Stories. The focus of the first few episodes was to have a technical flavor to share tips. But, based on feedback from listeners, where they found the personal stories of the guests very interesting and inspiring, pivoted to calling this the Software People Stories | What is the main focus or theme of your show? These are unscripted conversations of what worked and what did not, in the guests' personal and professional journeys ![]() |
Have there been any particularly memorable moments during the recording that stick out to you? I find all conversations very memorable. From the youngest guest, who was just 11 years old - by her maturity and the things she has been able to achieve at that young age, to a 70+ academician who is still very active and engaged with emerging technologies. There have also been many entrepreneurs who discovered their own passion and started out. | Who has been one of your favorite guests so far, and why? Dorai Thodla - who unfortunately passed away recently, for being an infinite source of ideas and enthusiasm. I have also had the opportunity to work with him closely in an earlier phase of my career. What's next for your show – any exciting plans we should know about? We will soon be publishing our 300th episode! Waiting to reach 312, when it would be 6 years since launch. Have some interesting ideas that are being explores now, including use of some of the new tech tools and technologies to make the content more easily discoverable, and consumable and extend the reach to other languages beyond English. |
A special thanks to Shiv Sivaguru for sharing his insightful podcast journey thus far and we wish him all the best with his continued podcast growth.
