Milena Sanchez Opens Up about Solo Podcast Journey

Milena Sanchez left the popular UK podcast, The Receipts, last year due to a declining mental health and an ongoing rift with her co-hosts. Since then, she moved away from London to pursue music and writing but found herself missing podcasting. She overcame self-doubt to launch her own solo project called Milena's Diary in September 2021 and has been overwhelmed by the positive response despite finding it challenging to start from scratch without a team.

Podcast by Friends Highlights Stories of Black Women Offenders

The majority of Americans aged 12 to 54 have been found to listen to podcasts, with audiences becoming increasingly diverse. Despite the popularity of true crime podcasts, few focus on Black victims and offenders. To address this gap, friends MaRah Williams and Taz launched a podcast called Sistas Who Kill about Black women who commit murder.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

Reginald Sherman is a minister, motivational/inspirational, spiritual speaker, and motivational coach. Reginald D overcame adversity and personal challenges in his life and uses them to inspire others through his podcast, Real Talk With Reginald D Podcast

What inspired you to start a podcast?

My story is rooted in faith, resilience, and a divine calling that inspired me to start my podcast. I had to overcome many setbacks, including thoughts of suicide and coming close to carrying through, until God spoke to me in the mirror, not only stopping me from taking my life but also telling me the calling he placed on my life. He also spoke to me through vivid dreams, where I would see a church & people gathered outside it, symbolizing my purpose wasn’t confined to pastoring within four walls, but it was a message to speak to the masses - & I started my podcast.

How did you come up with the name of your podcast?

I came up with the name Real Talk With Reginald D, because it was something that reflects open, honest conversations about life, faith, and overcoming challenges.

What is the main focus or theme of your show?

The main focus of my podcast is to inspire and empower through faith-based conversations about overcoming adversity, personal growth, and resilience. I share personal stories, motivational insights, and spiritual guidance, encouraging people to embrace their purpose and navigate challenges with faith, hope, and determination.

Have there been any particularly memorable moments during the recording that stick out to you?

The first memorable moment was realizing after an entire interview that I had forgotten to hit the record button. The second was my interview with Miss North Carolina. It went great or so I thought. Later, I discovered her phone had caused an audio loop, ruining her recording. When I asked her to re-record, she refused, leaving me with unusable audio and no way to salvage the interview

Who has been one of your favorite guests so far, and why?

I think my favorite guest to date was a 12-year-old entrepreneur who runs a food truck business while balancing school. He's incredibly determined and motivated, not only chasing his dreams but also giving back by feeding the homeless. His drive and passion at such a young age were truly inspiring.

What's next for your show – any exciting plans we should know about?

I'm excited to share that Real Talk With Reginald Real Talk has just recently secured another TV station contract where podcast interviews are aired on. Currently, the show is broadcast on two radio stations and three TV stations in the United States.

A special thanks to REGINALD for sharing his insightful podcast journey thus far and we wish him all the best with his continued podcast growth.
