Why Ariel Helwani Isn't Invited on the Joe Rogan Podcast MMA journalist Ariel Helwani has revealed that he won't be invited to The Joe Rogan Experience podcast due to Rogan's relationship with UFC president Dana White. Helwani criticized Rogan for spreading a false narrative about him following an incident in 2016, where he was banned and later reinstated by the UFC after breaking news of Brock Lesnar’s comeback. He also took issue with recent comments by Rogan suggesting that he manipulates his interviewees into saying certain things. | ![]() Joe Rogan |

STACEY TAYLOR’S PODCAST JOURNEY
Meet Stacey, the host of Stacey's Pop Culture Parlour. An avid comic fan since 2005 when her now-husband introduced her to Captain America, she quickly found herself deep in the world of geekdom. After a successful stint as a guest on Geek Syndicate and co-hosting Comic Racks, she decided to create The Parlour. From comics, films, TV shows to books and video games - if it's pop culture, you can bet Stacey is ready to discuss it with fervor at The Parlour! | ![]() |
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background? I'm Stacey; a 39-year-old anxious, asexual nerd who is borderline obsessed with the Ninja Turtles, Empress of Podcasting (according to Ryan of the Geeky Brummie podcast), and lover of movies, music, and making people laugh. I've been podcasting in some form since 2007, have guested on lots of wonderful podcasts, and have broadcast three 24-hour live shows to raise funds for charity. | What inspired you to start a podcast? I was lucky enough to be invited onto the Geek Syndicate podcast as a Listener Of The Month and, despite being so nervous I was quite ill beforehand, had a wonderful time and was immediately bitten by the podcast bug! It was so fantastic to not only be a part of the show, but be so welcomed by their listener community that I knew it was something I wanted to remain a part of. |
How did you come up with the name of your podcast? A friend actually named my show! I wanted something that was to the point in terms of the content (pop culture reviews) but reflected the open and inviting atmosphere I try to cultivate. As a Brit, I love tea and am partial to a bit of cake, so when a friend suggested Stacey's Pop Culture Parlour, I was in love! Just a lovely tea room for friends to natter nerdily in; perfect. | What is the main focus or theme of your show? The show is a pop culture review podcast in which I focus mainly on movies, TV and music, but often touch on books, comics, video games, theatre and more. It's quite conversational; I like it to feel like the kind of chat you and your mates might have after a trip to the cinema. ![]() |
Have there been any particularly memorable moments during the recording that stick out to you? I'm really proud of the three 24-hour charity live broadcasts I did. Broadcasting from my kitchen, the first took place in 2014 and was co-hosted by my buddy Jenni, the others in 2016 and 2018 with Geek Syndicate's Barry Nugent. We had guests calling in for the full 24hrs and managed to raise over £1,000 each time. They were a real challenge, stepping out of my comfort zone, but so worth it!
| Who has been one of your favorite guests so far, and why? I've been lucky enough to have a ton of brilliant guests, but one that stands out to me is Rob Paulsen. Anyone who knows me in person knows what a huge Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan I am, and Rob has voiced not one but two Turtles during his illustrious voice-acting career. I was absolutely floored that he agreed to come on the show, and he was genuinely one of the nicest people I have ever spoken to. Open, honest, incredibly funny, humble, and a joy to chat with. I'm so happy I got the opportunity to chat with such a legend of the field. Amazing. What's next for your show – any exciting plans we should know about? Earlier this year I hosted a TMNT 40th anniversary 'Shellebration' at the Mockingbird Cinema in Digbeth, which included pizza, a quiz with prizes, and screenings of S1 of the 1987 Turtles cartoon and the 1990 live action movie. I had an absolute whale of a time doing this, so there's definitely going to be more live events in my future. If you're a Brummie, let me know what you would like to see! |
