WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE PODCAST WORLD
YouTube Music Enhances Podcast Features for Better User Experience

The Podcasts team at YouTube Music announced that they're planning more enhancements to their platform. They shared on Reddit some recent updates, including the ability to organise podcast episodes by either newest or oldest, popularity, or as set by the creator. Non-US users with podcasts in their library will also see a new feature on their home screen: a "Recommended shows" section (this is already accessible for US users). Additionally, search results have been improved for better discovery of favorite YouTube podcasts.

In Other News

The third edition of the Ondas Globales Podcast Awards, organized by PRISA Audio and Cadena SER and backed by Podimo, recently took place. The awards celebrated 18 outstanding podcasts or their creators across 16 categories. Among the winners were We Will Come Out Better, Bad People, Almighty, Lambs, Alone with… Vicky Martín Berrocal and Getting into the Ranch Podcasters Xuso Jones and Ana Brito along with actor Victor Clavijo. Two honours were shared between recipients while three special mentions were also made.

The popular podcast, Shrink The Box, which delves into the minds of famous TV characters, is returning for its second season. This series will feature Ben Bailey Smith, a writer, actor and comedian who hosts the show. He will be accompanied by new co-host Nemone Metaxas, a known broadcaster and psychotherapist.

When Nelson Mandela became South Africa's first president elected through a democratic process in May 1994, the air was filled with hope for the country's future after apartheid. I was present and felt a sense of relief, eager for an end to the violence.

The Authors Show

The Authors Show is a leading podcast in the book publishing industry. It was launched in 2005 by Danielle Hampson and has grown to be a highly respected platform for authors to present their work. The show conducts professional interviews with independent authors from around the world, giving exposure to books that might not otherwise get noticed. Each author gets airtime for an entire day during the weekdays or even for three days over weekends on one of seven channels.

Initially called "Arizona Authors", it was renamed as "The Authors Show" when they started receiving interview requests from other states too. What sets them apart is their commitment to social causes - through partnerships with nonprofit organizations, they donate books under their program “Give a Book, Get a Smile”. This popular show continues to make significant contributions in promoting new literary voices while also doing its bit to spread literacy.

Things to Do While Listening to Podcasts

Podcasts are an excellent tool for learning and entertainment. They offer the advantage of multitasking, making them a perfect choice for those who may be short on free time. There's no need to carve out special time to listen to podcasts. The whole concept is designed around delivering information and entertainment through audio, which can make mundane or boring tasks more enjoyable.

  • The survey conducted by the Podcast Host found that the main reason people share a podcast they've listened to is because they enjoyed it (48% of respondents). Other reasons include if someone they know might benefit from the show (39%) or if the host requested them to share it (13%).

  • The survey reveals that listeners interact with hosts for various reasons. 30% do so because they enjoy the content, 21% have questions or want to contribute, 15% agree with the host's viewpoint and 5% disagree.

  • A majority, 71%, of those surveyed do not rate or review podcasts.
