WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE PODCAST WORLD
The Dayparts When Audio Platforms See Peak Listening

credit: Edison Research

Edison's Research Share of Ear® dataset is a great tool that tracks how and when people listen to different audio types throughout the day. It's no shocker that radio usage hits its high point in the morning, between 6am-10am, also known as "morning drive time." This is largely because radios have always prioritized strong morning programs and many folks have gotten used to tuning in while they kick off their day or commute.

Interestingly, though, it turns out that evening time - from 7pm to midnight - sees a spike in one particular type of sound: music on YouTube. Most other kinds of audio hit their stride around midday (from 10am-3pm). Then there’s afternoon or as we call it "PM Drive Time” (from 3pm-7pm), which is when TV Music Channels get maximum ears on them.

After a rough year for podcasting, many are hoping the New Year brings some relief. But considering the rest of the media industry's struggle to make it through January, these hopes seem fragile. Still, it's a new year and there are significant questions that need to be addressed about the future and identity of podcasting.

When Alex Campbell, a sociology and history teacher from Tennessee, tasked his students with cracking open some unsolved murder cases in spring 2018, he couldn't have predicted they would pinpoint a suspect. Nor did he expect that their journey would become the subject of a true crime podcast six years down the line.

Imagine if we had paid heed when Palestinians, back in 2005, urged the global community to shun Israel until it adhered to international law. By Naomi Klein.

Collin Campbell, after Gimlet's dissolution by Spotify, has made a comeback to public radio and is on a mission to shape the future of NPR. Insider landed an exclusive interview with him, discussing how NPR is navigating the increasingly competitive world of podcasting and if he picked up any lessons from the chaos at Gimlet.

PODCAST TIP OF THE DAY
Podcast Name Generator

Why It’s Important To Choose A Great Podcast Name?

Search Engine Optimization

In the modern world, search engines are key in linking people to the information they're after - often through certain keywords. For this reason, it's crucial that your podcast name is designed with search engines in mind. That means crafting a title that fits well with the main theme of your podcast and includes at least one keyword.

Establishing A Strong Domain & Social Handles

Another key factor in securing your podcast's future success is to keep the same name across all platforms, including domains and social media profiles. Ideally, you'd want your podcast's title to be identical on your website and social media accounts.

Brand Strategy

Branding is the third key element for growing your podcast. It's crucial to pick a name that reflects the brand you're cultivating for your show accurately. The name should speak to your intended audience and align with the vibe of your show, not forgetting it needs to be catchy and unforgettable.

1. Twitter Was Created Because of a Failed Podcast Platform

Before Twitter was created, Evan Williams, one of the co-founders of the popular microblogging network and a developer of Blogger, tried to develop a podcasting platform. He called it Odeo. When Apple introduced the iPod in the early 2000s, one of its main features was its ability to download podcasts. The name of this feature was Podcast. 6. People Spend an Average of Six Hours a Week Listening to Podcasts

There are several reasons why people listen to podcasts. Some use it to learn about new things, keep themselves entertained, or stay in touch with the latest news.
