PODCAST FACTS
Did You Know?

  • People now listen to AM/FM radio 43% of the time and podcasts 36% of the time. This gap has shrunk from a difference of 53 percentage points seven years ago to just seven now. In a few more years, it's likely that podcasts will overtake AM/FM radio.

  • However, this trend is not seen across all age groups. Those aged 65 and older still prefer AM/FM radio significantly more than podcasts. But for listeners between the ages of 13 and 64, podcast listening (41%) already exceeds AM/FM listening (39%).

  • When we look at Americans aged 65 or above, they predominantly listen to AM/FM radio with a wide margin - they tune into radios more by as much as a difference of about half (66%-13%). Interestingly enough, this same significant disparity was observed among all Americans aged over thirteen in the year prior.

  • Moreover, there has been an increase in ad-supported spoken word audio content consumption: from accounting for one-fourth (26%) of total listening time among those aged between 25 to fifty-four in the year before last; it has risen by six percent points just recently in last year making up almost one-third(32%), which today stands at two-fifths(40%), according to Edison’s most recent data.
