iNHouse Reveals Political Podcast Award Nominees

The finalists for the first-ever Political Podcast Awards, sponsored by Google, have been announced. The winners will be declared on 29th January 2025 in a ceremony led by Gyles Brandreth in Westminster. There are eleven awards to be won and all shortlisted podcasts are automatically nominated for two additional awards - 'Podcast of the Year' and 'People's Choice Award', with the latter being decided through a public vote.

Canadian Adults Increasingly Listen to Podcasts

Signal Hill Insights’ report shows that podcast listening is increasing in Canada, with 39% of adults now tuning in monthly and nearly one in ten (9%) on a daily basis. However, there has been a decline in listening among French-speaking Canadians. The research also revealed that over six-in-ten listeners have taken action after hearing a podcast ad, making it an attractive platform for advertisers.

Rise of Podcasting Influence in Politics 

The 2024 presidential election saw podcasts become a primary platform for political discourse and voter engagement, with the medium expected to continue growing in significance. Podcasts are set to become a main source of breaking news, whilst also helping media outlets rebuild trust with audiences due to their intimate and personal nature. However, further investment is needed in podcast teams and sustainable revenue models to support this growth.

Podcast Startup Riverside Raises $30 Million in Funding

Podcast platform Riverside has secured $30 million in a Series C funding round, with plans to expand its team and build solutions for podcast and content creation. Established in 2020, Riverside has raised a total of $80 million. The startup offers features like recording separate audio tracks with automatic backups, AI-powered editing feature to replace or remove text in the transcript, live-streaming support for multiple destinations and custom branding.

New Full Service Solution for On-Air Podcast Productions

PodcastOne has launched PodcastOne Pro, a service that helps brands and professionals turn podcasts into high-quality productions. The company offers a range of services including access to top-tier podcasting studios, program production, editing, distribution and promotion. How did you come up with the name of your podcast?

Actually, one of my best friends gave me the nickname JAYREELZ because we were working on a film project back in the mid-1990s, hence the film reel, so he added the z and the rest is history.

What is the main focus or theme of your show?

I'll highlight all of what has taken place from the time between episodes (I publish Monday & Thursday) and also what lies ahead. For instance, I released an episode today (10/17) discussing the MLB playoffs (I'm a huge Mets fan so I started the pod with them). Plus, NFL, college football, NBA (season tips off on Tuesday) and the NHL. With plenty of insight & opinions for the casual or diehard fan.

Have there been any particularly memorable moments during the recording that stick out to you?

Yes. I remember having to do a two-part interview with a former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back, Tyrone Carter, because he got so emotional talking about his journey to winning the Super Bowl back in 2005. That was a very candid and poignant interview. Also, ESPN analyst and Knicks radio color commentator, Monica McNutt. She has a lot of charisma and personality and was a great interviewee.

Who has been one of your favorite guests so far, and why?

There are a few. Former MLB pitcher, AJ Ramos was excellent. Monica McNutt as well. One of my recent favorites is WFAN's talk show host Keith McPherson. His journey to get to where he is today is fascinating and inspiring! I love discussions that chronicle the events of life leading to the breakthrough. Which is what I'm currently experiencing at the moment.

What's next for your show – any exciting plans we should know about?

My goal is to attract more guests, while increasing the visibility of the podcast, until it becomes a household name. I want to do livestreams. I want the podcast to be interactive. I'm not wrapped up in just one sport. I also talk golf, tennis, boxing, MMA, slowly getting into soccer. I'm the go to guy for all sports, which in this day and era, is lacking in this medium.
