What’s New?

The Liberal Arts at Bethany – Past, Present, and Future

The podcast, "The Liberal Arts at Bethany – Past, Present, and Future," is a new initiative by Gene Pfeifer, the President of Bethany Lutheran College (BLC), that was released on April 7, 2025. The eight-part series features discussions with current faculty and administrators about the role liberal arts play in BLC's educational approach.

This podcast forms part of a broader study conducted over a year to assess the significance and function of liberal arts in BLC's curriculum in response to questions raised following program changes made due to budgetary constraints and low enrollment rates. The goal behind this ongoing review process is for all stakeholders - faculty, administration, and board members - to understand what it means for BLC to be a confessional Lutheran liberal arts college while maintaining its Christ-centered mission as they plan for future generations.

PODCAST TIP

A word-for-word script is a fully written-out podcast script where every word, pause, and transition is planned—ideal for solo shows, tight narratives, or complex topics.

Advantages:
Precision: Ensures you cover every key point without rambling.
Confidence Booster: Eliminates "um's" and dead air (great for beginners!).
SEO-Friendly: Easy to repurpose into blog posts or transcripts.

How to Create One:
1️⃣ Outline First: List your episode’s sections (intro, main points, stories, outro).
2️⃣ Write Naturally: Use conversational language—read it aloud to test flow.
3️⃣ Mark Pauses/Emphasis: Add bold for key phrases or (pause) for dramatic effect.
4️⃣ Time It: Aim for ~150 words/minute (e.g., 1,500 words for a 10-minute episode).
