Annual Mail Metro Media Event Highlights New Podcast Strategies

Mail Metro Media recently held its annual event, Upfront & Centre, revealing plans for developments in video, podcasts and social media strategies. The company also announced the relaunch of the MailOnline app with new interactive features including a podcast player and vertical video channel. The discussion highlighted the importance of audience engagement, content experimentation and maintaining reader relationships.

Lexus Uses Podcast Ads to Increase Brand Familiarity

Audacy and Lexus conducted a study to measure the impact of podcast ads on car sales, using host-read ads across different podcasts. The results showed that the campaign exceeded expectations and outperformed Nielsen benchmarks in all brand metrics. Audacy concluded that personalized messages delivered through podcast advertising can successfully boost brand perception and drive sales, especially for high-end products.

Multiple Victories for BBC in Podcast Awards

The BBC won 29 awards, including 11 golds at the British Podcast Awards. Gold award winners included Radio 4’s Just One Thing and Child, Legend - The Joni Mitchell Story, Three Million by BBC Radio 4 and World Service, and Blood On The Dance Floor which aired on Radio 4. Other notable wins include Best Host for Marianna Spring and the Rising Star for 2024 award for Emily Esson.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman dubbed "a podcasting bro"

OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, recently proposed a $7 trillion investment plan to build 36 new chipmaking plants for AI progression during his tour of the Far East. This proposal was not well received by executives at companies like TSMC, Samsung and SK Hynix due to its ambitious scale and potential risk. Despite this criticism, other tech firms such as Microsoft, Nvidia and Apple are reportedly still in talks with OpenAI regarding their future plans.

CONNOR O’DONNELL’S PODCAST JOURNEY

Meet Connor, the host of My Isolation Podcast. He's a talented and well-educated individual with both a BA and MA in Digital Film and Television Production from The University of York. Connor has worked on over 15 projects in various roles, bringing his knowledge and experience into each episode of the podcast. He's eager to share engaging content with listeners while further developing his skills in the industry.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

Having graduated with a BA and MA in Digital Film and Television production, I am seeking work within the film/television industry. The Podcast is both a hobby and a way to advertise my website and get it sent around and hopefully get me some more film and TV work.

What inspired you to start a podcast?

It was something I wanted to try for years. However, in 2020 when the world was locked down, I decided to give it a go, but this only lasted three episodes before I gave up on it completely. In 2023 however, I decided to give it another try and I've been enjoying it ever since.

How did you come up with the name of your podcast?

I did the first edition of the podcast back in 2020, I called it My Isolation Podcast as everyone was in Isolation due to Covid-19. When I brought the podcast back, I kept the name due to me liking it and 'The Connor O'Donnell Hour' didn't sound very good.

What is the main focus or theme of your show?

It's focused on media so film and TV shows mainly. I do them by myself mainly to try and match with the theme of Isolation but will occasionally have a guest on with me.

Have there been any particularly memorable moments during the recording that stick out to you?

During my X-Men Retrospective, when I go in hard on why X-Men, Dark Pheonix was a terrible end to the franchise

 

Who has been one of your favorite guests so far, and why?

Dan Mcgee as he's a long good friend of mine and a great filmmaker

What's next for your show – any exciting plans we should know about?

I plan on having guests do stand-alone episodes by themselves as I think it would be good to open it up for other voices to talk about other topics within film and tv.
