WePod Project Connects European Podcasters

Javi Caminero and his team at Prisa Audio joined the WePod project to make cross-border podcasts with partners from different European countries. They faced challenges with language differences and adapting content for different audiences, but working together and sharing perspectives was essential. The team learned that a good cross-border podcast needs a story that matters to people in many countries and that collaboration between international teams is the key to success.

Award Win for "A Gay and a NonGay" Podcast

Dan Hudson and James Barr, hosts of the podcast "A Gay and a NonGay," won a Webby Award for their show, which talks about topics like sex, identity, queer history, and politics with humor. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

If you did a timeline of my career life, the vast majority (30 years) would be taken up by my radio broadcasting career. And the vast majority of that in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I took a hiatus for 3 years to work in the cruise industry traveling throughout the Caribbean, North America, Alaska and Central and South America. Combining those careers is how my podcast came to be what it is today.

What inspired you to start a podcast?

My podcast is actually an offshoot of a radio show that I created of the same name which ran for about 14 year on Corus Radio in Canada. The podcast became an added feature to enhance radio listenership. The radio part of my career ended in 2022 but I had already established the podcast side of it so it was a relatively easy transition.

How did you come up with the name of your podcast?

The Informed Traveler was an obvious choice for me. The goal is to make everyone interested in travel to informed. Information is power. The more the better.

What is the main focus or theme of your show?

Travel from a consumer standpoint.

Have there been any particularly memorable moments during the recording that stick out to you?

We do some "on location" recordings so those would be the most memorable. I don't really have one that stands or a favorite as they are unique.

Who has been one of your favorite guests so far, and why?

There have so many it's hard to narrow down a few. Most I would say would be from doing "on location" segments. Experiencing things first hand. Whale watching in Loreto, Mexico comes to mind with a whale coming up right beside our boat. And most recently in Louisiana where I saw alligators up close. Very cool.

What's next for your show – any exciting plans we should know about?

We have "on location" shows planned for Chicago in June, Charleston, NC in September and Barbados ((still in the works) for November.

Podcast Tip Of The Day

Elevate your video podcast by embedding overlay media (news clips, product demos) to add context—just ensure it’s royalty-free or licensed! Pair this with basic color grading (adjust shadows, highlights, and saturation) to give your footage a polished, professional look. For seamless integration, keep overlays concise (5-10 seconds max) and use subtle animations to avoid distracting from your main content. Always test your final edit on multiple screens to ensure colors appear consistent across devices.

A Final Note

Your video podcast should feel like a conversation, not a production—keep it real, keep it raw, and let your personality shine through.
