Podcasting and Video Streams Grow in Sports Broadcasting

The NAB Show in Las Vegas highlighted the increasing role of podcasting and video streams in sports content. Payne Media Group is utilizing these platforms for its 13 small-market radio stations, while Locked On Podcast Network produces daily shows covering various sports leagues and has moved into both audio and video production. Artificial intelligence is also being used to streamline the creation process of podcasts, including tasks like generating episode titles and creating social media content.

KATE & ROXY’S PODCAST JOURNEY

Meet Katie and Roxy, your friendly guides in the world of wedding business. These two seasoned pros are the hosts of The WedPro Podcast, a show dedicated to helping you build a profitable wedding venture. Katie's sharp marketing mind combined with Roxy's keen eye for industry trends makes them an unbeatable duo when it comes to offering practical advice and strategies that work! They're here every week sharing their insights, tips, and secrets from the world of weddings. With their guidance, you can turn your passion into profit while avoiding burnout.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

We’re Katie and Roxy—two wedding industry pros turned marketing and business strategists, and we’re the voices behind the WedPro Podcast. We've spent over 15 years each helping wedding businesses get fully booked, build brands that actually stand out, and create marketing that connects with modern couples. We know this industry inside and out—not just from the sidelines but in it

What inspired you to start a podcast?

We started the WedPro Podcast back in early 2020 when there wasn’t much out there for wedding pros. We wanted to create a space that was supportive and easy to access—run by two women who’ve lived the juggle, know the industry inside out, and are here to help our listeners grow a business that actually works for them.

How did you come up with the name of your podcast?

"WedPro” felt like the perfect fit, it's short for wedding professional or wedding supplier. We now have programmes with the name, and we have a community of tens of thousands of WedPros, and honestly... they just loved it. It stuck, it felt right, and it’s become part of everything we do. We wanted a name that felt friendly, familiar and like somewhere you’d actually want to hang out.

What is the main focus or theme of your show?

We cover all aspects of running a wedding business with a big focus on marketing and sales (because that’s our jam). As business owners and coaches, we love sharing ideas that are actually useful, not just the same old advice that’s been recycled a thousand times. It’s real talk, smart strategy, and a little inspo to help wedding pros grow with confidence.

Have there been any particularly memorable moments during the recording that stick out to you?

Honestly, some of our best episodes have come from the moments we didn’t plan. The off-the-cuff tangents, the honest truths about juggling life and business, or when one of us says something and the other goes, “Oof, that’s good!” It’s those real, unfiltered chats that our listeners love—and we do too.

Who has been one of your favorite guests so far, and why?

One of our favourite guests has to be Damian Bailey, founder of The Wedding Industry Awards. Not only is he an incredibly experienced wedding photographer, but his story of creating TWIA off the back of a game-changing win really stuck with us. He was open, honest, and genuinely passionate about lifting the standards of the industry—exactly the kind of guest we love.

What's next for your show – any exciting plans we should know about?

We’re always looking for ways to grow with our audience, and next up is expanding into video podcasting and we are currently creating more and more content for YouTube, because we understand that sometimes you just want to watch the conversation too! We’re still sharing the same sort of actionable advice, just in different forms, a few more faces and behind-the-scenes moments along the way too.

A special thanks to KATIE & ROXY for sharing their insightful podcast journey thus far and we wish them all the best with their continued podcast growth.

PODCAST TOOL OF THE DAY

Zencastr is a popular browser-based podcast recording tool known for its simple interface and high-quality separate audio tracks. It’s ideal for remote interviews but lacks advanced features like live streaming or built-in video editing. Here’s how top alternatives compare for different needs:

  1. Riverside.fm

    Key Differences:

Video Quality: Records in 4K video (Zencastr maxes at 1080p).

Separate Tracks: Each guest gets isolated WAV audio + video files (Zencastr requires post-download processing).

Live Streaming: Built-in live-to-platform streaming (Zencastr is recording-only).

  2. SquadCast

    Key Differences:

Backup Reliability: Automatically syncs recordings to Dropbox/Google Drive (Zencastr relies on browser stability).

Ease of Use: More intuitive guest interface (Zencastr’s UI can overwhelm beginners).

Video Podcasting: Seamless video + audio recording (Zencastr’s video is newer and less polished).

  3. Cleanfeed

    Key Differences:

No Software Needed: Runs entirely in-browser (Zencastr requires guest downloads for full features).

Low Latency: Near-real-time audio for live-to-tape recordings (Zencastr has slight delays).

Pro Audio Tools: Built-in EQ and noise suppression (Zencastr relies on post-edit cleanup).

When to Choose Zencastr Instead?

✔ You need unlimited recordings on the free plan
✔ You prefer post-production flexibility (raw tracks)
✔ You want PayPal payouts for guest reimbursements

PODCAST TIP

Delivery notes are short cues in your script (in brackets/italics) that guide how to say something—not just what to say. Think of them as a director’s notes for your voice!

Examples:

  • "Pause for effect here"

  • "Speed up – sound excited!"

  • "Whisper this line"

Why Use Them?
Consistency: Keeps your tone engaging across episodes.
Efficiency: Saves editing time (no re-recording awkward phrasing).
Emotion: Ensures jokes land, drama hits, and CTAs compel.

Pro Tip: Use highlight colors for different emotions (e.g., yellow = energetic, blue = serious).
