PENNY MOOR’S PODCAST JOURNEY

Meet Penny Moor, the witty and wonderfully nerdy host of Criminally Nerdy Podcast. With a knack for humor and a deep love for all things geeky, she brings a unique twist to true crime storytelling. She isn't just your average podcast host; Penny is your companion on this thrilling ride through the darkest parts of criminal history.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

I was raised on a healthy diet of Dateline and Unsolved Mysteries, so true crime has always been an interest of mine. I have always loved doing deep dives on all things nerdy and murdery, so I being able to get into the nitty gritty details while throwing in my geeky references and the occasional joke has been the ideal combination.

What inspired you to start a podcast?

A friend of mine, who clearly knows me all too well, sent me a job listing for a "Podcast Scriptwriter" and said, "This screams your name!". I have no background in journalism or scriptwriting, but I applied. I never heard back, understandably so! Haha. But, I couldn't deny that a fire was lit inside at the very thought of pursuing it. I knew that I had to follow that feeling.

How did you come up with the name of your podcast?

It was originally going to be called "Nerdy & Murdery", but I was concerned that it wouldn't catch the attention of potential audiences. I randomly thought of "Criminally Nerdy" one day, so I sent it in a group text to my friends. Everyone agreed, and Criminally Nerdy was born!

What is the main focus or theme of your show?

The theme of my show is true crime. I do deep dives on cases that are well-known, cases that have been suggested, and cases I happen to stumble upon. I try to keep it lighthearted at times and throw in pop culture references to keep the audience on their toes - but I try to ensure the most important point is the story of the victim.

Have there been any particularly memorable moments during the recording that stick out to you?

I record by myself in a small space right now, so the most interesting thing that happens is me making fun of or laughing at myself, which I usually include in the outtakes at the end of each episode.

Who has been one of your favorite guests so far, and why?

What's next for your show – any exciting plans we should know about?

For now, I am focusing on providing quality content to build the audience base. As the show grows, so will opportunities to bring more content - including bonuses and guests. I did recently start doing polls on Spotify for engagement, and I plan to start utilizing TikTok in the near future, either relating to the case or behind the scenes shenanigans. Who knows 😉

A special thanks to PENNY for sharing her insightful podcast journey thus far and we wish her all the best with her continued podcast growth.
