FRANCES MCGARRY’S PODCAST JOURNEY
Meet Frances, your host for First Online With Fran. She's just an ordinary person with a big love for the arts. But what she does is extraordinary! Through her online platform, Frances brings attention to regular people doing amazing things in the world of arts. Stay tuned to be inspired by these incredible stories that prove how powerful and transformative art can be. |
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background? Frances McGarry is an actor, arts advocate, and activist. Her podcast First Online With Fran’s There’s No Place Like Art features ordinary people doing extraordinary things in The Arts to make our world a deeper, richer, kinder place to live. In April 2023 AMAZON PODCASTS selected First Online With Fran as one of the best Arts podcasts garnering over 13K downloads. | What inspired you to start a podcast? The Arts are our supernatural gift. My podcast is an opportunity to open conversations on divisive issues through the healing of The Arts. |
How did you come up with the name of your podcast? I was waiting on line for a Broadway ticket and started to talk with people in the line about theater and their visit to NYC. Since I was first "on line" it was a fun way to engage with people waiting to get a ticket. | What is the main focus or theme of your show? I have an extensive professional outreach through my work as Director of Instruction for Stephen Sondheim's Young Playwrights Inc., adjunct professor at NYU, Board of Directors of The League of Professional Theatre Women, and Special Events committee for New York Women in Film and Television. I was a theatre high school teacher and many of my students are stars. |
Have there been any particularly memorable moments during the recording that stick out to you? My episode with Emily Mann. She was so inspired by our conversation she completed her play on gun violence, and I was recently invited to the first play reading in August.
| Who has been one of your favorite guests so far, and why? OOOh. SO many! Maleni Chatoo, a deaf actor, was memorable. It was the first time I did an episode with a deaf guest. What's next for your show – any exciting plans we should know about? Playwright Theresa Rebeck has agreed to be on my show!!! She is in workshop with Cindi Lauper MEAN GIRLS, the musical. Also, Emily Owens, novelist of BLANK is scheduled for October 18 podcast. |
A special thanks to FRANCES for sharing her insightful podcast journey thus far and we wish her all the best with her continued podcast growth.

PODCAST TOOL OF THE DAY
How To Create Website Using Podcastpage
After signing up for Podcastpage, use the setup wizard.
Choose a site name, which will also serve as your sub-domain. This can be changed later.
Connect or import your podcast using either the database or by adding the RSS feed URL manually. You can start with a blank feed if needed.
Select a theme for the website layout and style under 'General Settings' in the 'Customization' tab. This can be adjusted later as well.
Connect Your Podcast
The podcast website is created using your podcast RSS feed. This means that when you link your podcast to Podcastpage, it automatically brings in your content and creates various pages and sections. Each episode gets its own page with unique URLs.
Podcastpage initially imports the podcast and then continues to synchronize it whenever new episodes are released. The connection of the podcast can be done during site setup or anytime from the "Podcasts" screen.
Add Custom Domain
Purchase your own domain for promoting your podcast website from a registrar like Namecheap or Google Domains. Connect this domain to your site. Every Podcastpage plan offers the option of connecting a custom domain, except for the free trial - you must upgrade before linking your domain.
Add Social & Subscribe Buttons
Once the podcast is connected, links to popular podcast platforms and apps are included. Podcast subscribe buttons and social icons assist visitors in finding the podcast on their preferred apps. To edit or remove these buttons or add other platforms like Spotify, navigate to the "Podcasts" screen. Click "Edit Podcast" to modify links.
Modify Logo & Navigation
To change your logo, visit "Customize -> General Settings -> Site Logo" and upload a new image. Adjust the image width as needed.
Add to the menu by clicking on "Customize -> Header & Footer -> Navigation Links". You can add any URL here - either links within your site or external ones.
Add Footer Widgets
The demo footer includes sample widgets. Edit, remove or hide them as needed. Adjust the number of columns and widgets as desired. Widgets can hold text, images, links, tables, and media.
