YouTube Using AI to Better Protect Teens

YouTube is using machine learning to estimate users’ ages and improve age-appropriate protections. This change is in response to more podcasts being distributed through YouTube, where age restriction matters. The AI will look at what users watch and other signals, not just the birthday on their account. Teen users will get special protections like no personalized ads, extra digital wellbeing tools, and safer video recommendations. The rollout will start with a small group in the U.S. in the coming weeks.
